Baseball

Baseball is a sport played outside on a baseball field by 2 teams with 9 players on each team. Teams take turns playing offense and defense. When on offense, players take turns hitting a baseball thrown by the opposing team’s pitcher with their baseball bat. After hitting the ball, a player moves counter-clockwise around a series of four bases: first, second, third and home plate. A point or run is scored when the player advances around the bases and returns to home plate.

When on defense, players try to get 3 outs on the offense. An out can be made when a player catches a hit ball in the air and many different ways. After 3 outs, the team on offense takes the field to play defense and the defensive team gets its turn to play offense. An inning consists of 3 outs for both teams (total of 6 outs) and the game consists of 9 innings. The team that scores the most runs in 9 innings wins the game.
