Basketball is a very popular sport played by two teams of five players. It’s played on a rectangular court indoors or outdoors. The object is to throw (shoot) the basketball through a steel ring (hoop) to score a goal. The hoop is connected to a backboard 10 feet high to score a goal. Goals are worth 2 or 3 points depending upon distance from hoop when shooting the ball. The ball can be advanced on the court by dribbling (bouncing it while walking or running) or throwing it to a team mate. It is a violation to move without dribbling the ball, to carry it, or to hold the ball with both hands and then resume dribbling. A violation gives the ball to the other team. Games are played for a predetermined amount of time. The team with the most points when time runs out wins the game
